Why Do I Need a Home Weather Station

Personal Home Weather StationWith technology where it is today, it is so easy to get weather updates online, on our mobile phones or simply watching a national or local weather channel.  The problem with those reports is that they are not taking a weather reading in your back yard.  The weather report you are getting is a general report for your city, town or county.  In areas of the Unites States that have severe weather, it is good to have a home weather station, so that you can get up to the minute and accurate readings exactly where your weather is occurring.  I live in San Antonio, so we don’t get much severe weather around here.  But, we installed a wireless home weather station for a client in Olmos Park a couple years back on a home we remodeled.  They clients called me to thank me for recommending the home weather station after a big hail storm was about to hit their area.  They were able to get their cars in the garage before they were damaged by the hail.   The local television station was predicting that that their area of town was not going to get any hail.  They were obviously wrong.  Most modern home weather stations can be installed in a matter of minutes with little trouble.  The higher end home weather stations have all the bells and whistles including:  solar power, wireless connection, rain/snow gauge, humidity/temperature sensors, current moon phases, atmospheric pressure, wind speed, dew point, soil temperature and up to 1,000 foot range.

Home weather stations are a new trend in the home improvement industry.  I find that a lot my clients are seeking advice on affordable home weather stations. Weather safety is something that is often overlooked in many areas of the country.–Danny Garcia, owner of Rhino Design Build in San Antonio, Texas.

The information that personal weather stations provide can lead to a new hobby. Most of my clients  have discovered that their home weather station has given them a better understanding of weather in general.   After all, weather observation is not just confined to where you live. Hopefully at the very least, you will improve your weather forecasting skills to the point where it will help you to avoid getting caught in some dangerous unexpected weather.  Being able to warn neighbors and family members of sever weather is extremely important.
