Brick vs Hardie Plank Siding

While brick offers a handsome look to any home, it comes at a price.  When you compare brick vs Hardi Plank Siding
, the cost is considerable.  You should expect to pay about $10-12 per square foot for brick and about $3-4 per square foot for Hardie Plank.  Brick can last up to 100 years before it shows signs of wear, if it is properly installed.  Hardie Plank can last up to 50 years, if it properly installed and maintained.  Hardie Plank should be painted every 5-7 years where as brick is pretty much maintenance free.  Brick is also a better thermal insulator and will keep more sound from coming into the house. If you are considering using Hardi Plank Siding
, check with your home owners insurance company to see if you qualify for a discount (your home will need to be 100% masonry to qualify in most areas)
